As a coach with over a decade of experience, I've witnessed firsthand how the landscape of coaching has evolved, especially with the surge of social media and influencer culture. I've also experienced how long it can take to establish credibility, authority, get paid what you're worth, and turn a profit. And trust me when I tell you, this is a long game. If you are a new coach who wants to establish your credibility as quickly as possible, here are some ways to position yourself from day one.
#1- Find Your Niche
One of the most effective ways to establish credibility is to specialize in a niche. Being a jack of all trades when selling your services online is a sure fire way to make zero dollars. A niche helps you stand out in a crowded market. Whether it’s leadership coaching, health coaching, or business coaching, (or any host of personal services!) narrowing in on a niche allows you to tailor your messaging and attract the right clients from the beginning. #2- Learn to Tell Your Story
Just like your niche, your personal journey is a powerful tool for establishing credibility. Stories sell and establish credibility very quickly in any service-based industry. Tell your potential clients what led you to become a coach, why you picked the niche you did, the challenges you've faced, and the successes you've achieved along the way. Authenticity builds trust, and when clients connect with your narrative, they are more likely to see you as a credible resource. Story telling is so important to marketing that we teach our clients how to harness it in our 1:1 coaching services, and it's part of the curriculum in our coach certification program.
#3. Become a Life-Long Learner
As a new coach, you should prioritize ongoing education. Anyone in any service industry will benefit if they continue to grow personally and professionally. Attend workshops, obtain certifications, and seek mentorship from established coaches & business owners in your field. This builds your skill and shows potential clients you are committed to your craft. And make sure you showcase these credentials on your website and social media profiles to show your expertise. We love when we see our clients display their certificates of completion from any of our RAYMA Foundations™ life & leadership modules in their offices or homes! Be proud of all the hard work you've done to get to this point in your life and career.
#4- Build an Online Presence
Last but not least, you must have an online presence to establishing credibility. You need a professional website that clearly outlines your services, qualifications, and testimonials. Start a blog, podcast, or YouTube channel to create valuable content related to your niche—blogs, videos, and podcasts all demonstrate your knowledge and insights. Make sure you are active on the social media platforms your ideal client hangs out the most. You don't need to be on every platform but consistency is key no matter what platform you are on. Trust me, an active online presence helps build credibility and authority.
It can be overwhelming to start any business. As a new coach (or someone who wants to sell their services online) the quicker you establish credibility and authority the quicker you get paid. But just like all good things - this isn't a fast process; good things take time. It can take years to turn a profit. So don't let the internet lie to you. If you start today to position yourself as a credible coach or leader by finding your niche, telling your story, becoming a life-long learner, and building an online presence then you will be well on your way to building your dream company.
With grace & grit,
